Profile

More than just a hotel, L'Abbaye de Talloires is a haven of serenity and refinement and will seduce you with its charm. On the shores of Lake Annecy, L'Abbaye de Talloires has preserved its character of authenticity over the centuries. Imagine this 17th century abbey, its ancient stones reflected gently on the surface of the transparent lake.

It remains unchanged since its construction but, of course, progressive improvements and modernisation have taken place to provide greater comfort. The interior cloister has retained an air of reverence and intimacy with its old ironwork and the coping of its well. The quadrangle decorated with flowers, which sprawls between the arches, was once reserved for the burial of priors.

The former cells of the monks have been transformed into warm and comfortable rooms. They open onto an immense panelled gallery encircled by a balcony made of antique oak, today place of art exhibitions as well as well known concerts of classical music or jazz.

The Prior's Room is a veritable museum piece and is classified monument. Decorated in an 18th century mythological style by Annecy painter Jean-Baptiste Van Helmont, it contains paintings depicting the apostles and a pastel-toned ceiling with cherubs frolicking in floral garlands. This décor, however, would scarcely have been favourable for prayer.
