| | | Originally, the castle served as a royal residence for the Austrasian crown, in the Merovingian era, but in 1380 it became part of the fortified walls of Rouffach, after an enlargement ordered by Bishop Frederic de Blankenheim. However, only a number of parts of the original structure would remain till our days. |
After being sold as a national asset, the most ancient part of Isenbourg was demolished, and the vaulted cellars _ dating as far back as the 12th and 14th centuries- were the only structures preserved: nowadays, it is in these ambiances where guests enjoy the restaurant, the cellars and the kitchen of the property. Le Chateau d`Isenbourg has 41 guestrooms displayed in the main building and another, the Nantilde Pavilion. |
There are also wonderful facilities at this four-star hotel: two swimming pools _one outdoors and another inside featuring sauna, hammam and whirlpool; bicycles for those who wish to make the most of the natural surroundings, and a gastronomic restaurant. All of these, only 9 miles from Colmar and near the many villages that make up the Alsatian Wine Route. |
