One of the typical products France is mostly proud of will be right at your doorstep at the Hostellerie de la Reine Blanche in Vertus, a medieval village located in Champagne, France: surely, by now you will have guessed we are talking about this bubbled drink, produced in this area as nowhere else in the world. |
This three star hotel, named as property of the "White Queen" (that is what "Reine Blanche" means in French), offers 30 cosy rooms recently refurbished, a breakfast buffet loaded with local specialties - by the way, this means champagne added to almost every item - and an indoor heated swimming pool where you may relax after a tour at the nearby cellars. The lodge, built in 1987 and renovated in 2006 and 2007, is located at a distance of 2 hours driving from Paris. |
At the reception, the staff of the Hostellerie will recommend you a dinner at the Thibault IV, a restaurant only 10 metres from the entrance that also belongs to the family, and will arrange your sightseeing tours in vineyards, cellars and wine tasting sessions. Moreover, there are two private lounges specially prepared for the hosting of business meetings and group parties. |
The inn is placed at the region known as Côte des Blancs, which goes from Vertus to Epernay (the capital of the Champagne area, the so-called "cradle of champagne"): the name derives from the views you will constantly get here, vineyards of white grapes (mainly chardonnay), thanks to which the famous "blanc des blancs" is produced. Lots of small villages dedicated to this activity seem to stand out, one after the other, each with its own tribute to the local specialty. |
